Sorin Aristotel Avram (born March 29, 1943 in Bacau ; † September 29, 2015 ) was a Romanian football player and coach . The striker denied 226 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A . As a national player, he took part in the 1964 Olympic Games .

Career as a player

At the age of 16 Avram came to the first team of Dinamo Bacau , where he came on March 20, 1960 for his first use in the Romanian top division, the Divizia A (now League 1 ). In the summer of 1960, he moved to local rivals Steaua Roşie Bacau in Divizia B to collect match practice. After a year he returned to Dinamo, but could not establish himself as a regular player, although he came to more missions.

After Avram had become European champions with the Romanian youth national team in the summer of 1962 , he played in the 1962/63 season for Viitorul Bucharest , which had emerged from the winning team. When Viitorul was dissolved during the winter break, he moved to Steaua Bucharest . The club was one of the most successful in Romania in the 1960s. After two cup wins in 1966 and 1967 , Avram was able to win the Romanian championship with Steaua in the 1967/68 season .

After this success Avram lost his regular place in the following season and only made seven appearances, so that his share in the renewed cup win was small. After this season he left the club and moved to league rivals Farul Constanța .

In 1970 Avram returned to his hometown and played for SC Bacau , where he ended his career in 1973.

National team

Sorin Avram played twelve games for the Romanian national soccer team and scored one goal. He made his debut on May 20, 1964 in the friendly against Hungary . National coach Silviu Ploeşteanu appointed him in the same year in the squad for the Olympic Games in Tokyo , where he was used in the preliminary round match against Iran . Avram played his last international game on March 22, 1967 in a 2-1 win in a friendly against France .

Career as a coach

Avram first worked at the Liceul de Fotbal Bacau as a physical education teacher. In July 1980 he won the Romanian national championship title in the B-youth ( juniori 2 ) as coach of Letea Bacau at the final tournament in Câmpulung . In the 1991/92 season supervised Avram his former club FC Bacau for a few games in the Divizia A .
