Course of the road

The South Arm Highway is an urban highway in the south of the Australian state of Tasmania . It connects the Tasman Highway (A3) and the eastern districts of Hobart with Lauderdale and the South Arm Peninsula in the southeast of the city on the east bank of the Derwent River . Like the Southern Outlet on the other side of the river, the South Arm Highway serves rush hour traffic .
course
The trunk road begins in the suburb of Mornington and runs southeast, past the suburb of Bellerive and on via Rokeby to Lauderdale on Ralphs Bay . There it turns south and leads on the peninsula, through Sandford and along the eastern slopes of Mount Augustus , around Ralphs Bay to South Arm and finally to the end point Opossum Bay .
In the area between Bellerive and Rokeby, the street is also called Rokeby Road .
Bellerive bypass
A highway in this area was suggested in the Hobart Area Transportation Study of 1964, but it was built in the early 1980s. This new stretch of road begins on the Tasman Highway in Mornington, goes over a large roundabout in Howrah, and then returns to the old stretch of the South Arm Highway. This bypass replaced the old road that ran through the suburbs of Bellerive and Rosny . Originally the entire highway was planned to be elevation-free , but currently the only elevation-free connection is to the Tasman Highway. Since 2009, the section between Shoreline Drive and Rokeby has been converted into a four-lane motor vehicle. The two additional lanes were planned during the reconstruction of the Bellerive bypass in the 1980s, but not yet built.
