South Glamorgan ( Welsh De Morgannwg ) is a Preserved County and a former administrative county of Wales . A Preserved County in Wales includes the jurisdiction of the ceremonial offices of Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff .

Administrative history

In 1974, the new administrative county South Glamorgan was formed from parts of County Glamorgan and County Borough Cardiff and divided into the two districts of Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan . South Glamorgan's administrative headquarters were in Cardiff. West Glamorgan is no longer an administrative county , but a Preserved County since the 1996 administrative reform . Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan have been Principal Areas since then .
