South Radworthy is a hamlet in the civil parish of North Molton , in the district of North Devon in the county of Devon , England . It is located about five kilometers north of the village of North Molton and about 25 kilometers east of the town of Barnstaple .

geography

South Radworthy is located south or east of the River Mole , the headwaters of which is northeast of South Raworthy. On the other side of the river are about one kilometer west-southwest Heasley Mill , one and a half kilometers west-northwest North Heasley and one and a half kilometers north-northeast North Radworthy . The hamlet is on an unclassified road and is surrounded by woodland.

Listed building

South Radworthy Cottage is a pair of cottages that has been listed as Grade II on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest since November 24, 1988 . The older of the two dates from the 17th century, the other from the 19th century.

Domesday Book

South Radworthy is mentioned in the Domesday Book along with North Radworthy . Both locations are in the old Hundred of South Molton , one of 42 old administrative divisions in the county of Devon.

The Domesday Book entry for North and South Radworthy shows a population of 12 households (eight of the free villagers and four of serfs) and the total tax burden was set at 0.3  monetary units . The land was valued at £ 3 in 1086, compared to £ 0.8 in 1070. After the conquest in 1066, Alward Son of Toki was the feudal lord, but in 1086 it was William the Goat. The agriculturally used land in the two places consisted of tubs, two of which were cultivated by the liege lord and one by the free villagers. There was also an acre of meadow land, 40 acres of pasture land, a leuge woodland, and an eighth mile of mixed proportions. 10 cattle, four pigs and 50 sheep were kept in 1086.
