South of the Border is a 2009 documentary directed by Oliver Stone that explores the political situation in Latin America. The film mainly consists of interviews with Latin American heads of government, including Presidents Hugo Chávez ( Venezuela ), Evo Morales ( Bolivia ), Cristina Fernández de Kirchner ( Argentina ), Rafael Correa ( Ecuador ), Raúl Castro ( Cuba ), Fernando Lugo ( Paraguay ) and Lula da Silva ( Brazil ).
The documentary was first shown at the 66th Venice International Film Festival in 2009 . The screenwriter was Tariq Ali , who describes the film as a "political road movie". The economist Mark Weisbrot contributed to the film.
