The Social Service of the Bundeswehr offers members of the Bundeswehr and their families free and comprehensive advice and support in social matters. It is part of the Federal Armed Forces administration and the civilian personnel department and is divided into the areas of social counseling and social work .

The social service of the Bundeswehr was an expression of the duty of care ( § 31 para. 1 Soldatengesetz (SG)) of the employer and the employer covenant against the raise (also former) military personnel and is an expression of the solidarity of state and soldiers by mutual loyalty. The social service employees conduct individual, family and group discussions as well as house calls. They give lectures as part of courses (e.g. recruiting training, deployment preparation) and events, they work with agencies both inside and outside the Bundeswehr as well as with institutions and networks, they advise superiors and give expert opinions on request.
