Sociopod

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Soziopod is a podcast on sociological and philosophical topics that has been produced since 2011 by the educationalist Nils Köbel ( Catholic University of Mainz ) and Patrick Breitenbach , media consultant and former lecturer for new media at Karlshochschule International University . In 2013 the project was the first podcast ever to receive a Grimme Online Award (“Knowledge and Education” category).

In each episode, which lasts up to two hours, Breitenbach and Köbel dedicate themselves to a topic or the work of a well-known philosopher. After an introductory definition, they explain the scientific fundamentals before they then discuss in a "casual conversation". According to their own statement, they pursue the goal of presenting the topics in a generally understandable manner in order to bring "sociology [...] onto the street" where it belongs. According to the company, in 2017 the episodes reached an average of over 20,000, and individual episodes over 40,000 listeners.

The podcast is increasingly being carried out as a live event. In June 2015, the Soziopod was produced for the first time live and with an audience in the Mainz show stage ; The theme of the issue was " Identity ". In December of the same year the podcast was a guest at the Chaos Communication Congress with a review of the year . Further live performances followed. Since March 2016 there has also been the “Better call Soziopod” series, which runs in the word stream of the web radio detektor.fm in the Knowledge section with audience participation on Wednesdays in the evening program. Since August 2017, Breitenbach and Köbel have also been producing Soziopod editions for the Bremen Zwei cultural program under the name “Radio Edition” . The live formats are only partially provided as podcasts.

On February 12, 2016 was titled How I became who I am, and what we will be again at Lübbe a book about the program. From January 2019 to summer 2020 there was a separate web forum on the topics of the podcast.
