The SpVg Werne (officially: Spielvereinigung Werne 16/25 eV ) was a sports club from Werne in the Unna district . The first soccer team played for two years in the highest Westphalian amateur league.

history

The oldest predecessor club is BV Werne 16 , founded on March 16, 1916 , which was renamed SV Werne 16 two years later . In 1920 this merged with TV Werne 03 , but the merger was resolved a year later. In 1925, mine officials founded VfK Werne 25 . Both clubs played in the second-rate 1st district class before they merged in 1936 to form the Werne game association. A new club called SV Werne 16 was established in 1949.

After the end of the Second World War , the club first played in the Dortmund district class. In 1947 Werner moved to the Münster squadron and immediately secured the championship and promotion to the state league , the highest Westphalian amateur league at the time. As the third from bottom of the 1948/49 season , relegation was just missed. In 1950, the game association qualified for the short-lived 2nd State League Westphalia . Despite a 0:11 defeat at SVA Gütersloh , the Werner reached fifth place. A year later the 2nd national leagues were dissolved and the Werner returned to the regional league and in 1953 had to be relegated for violating the association's regulations. In the district league the Werner reached the runner-up behind the SuS Oberaden in 1958 .

SSV Werne

On July 15, 1961, the game association merged with the new SV Werne 16 to form SSV Werne . This played from 1965 to 1974 in the national league. After two runners-up championships in 1976 and 1978 behind SV Herbern and VfL Altenbögge , SSV went down to the district league A in 1979. In 1982 he was promoted again, followed by the leap into the national league in 1985. The team stayed there for three years, before going back down to the district league and in 1990 down to the district league A. In 1998 he was promoted to the district league again.

In 1966, the A-Jugend became vice-Westphalian champions after a 1: 4 defeat in the final against VfL Bochum . Football commentator Hansi Küpper played in the successful team. SSV Werne produced two Bundesliga players, Theodor Homann and Marvin Pourié .

Werner SC

On December 7, 1999, SSV Werne merged again with Sportfreunden Werne-West, founded in 1967, to form Werner SC . This took over the place in the district league from SSV, but in 2005 had to accept the move to the district league A. Six years later, he was promoted to the district league again. After three third places, Werner SC rose to the state league in 2017. Ingo Anderbrügge and Norbert Runge worked as coaches at Werner SC.
