Theodor Homann

Theodor "Theo" Homann (born April 28, 1948 in Werne ; † April 12, 2010 , ibid) was a German football player . In the Bundesliga, the midfielder was active for three years at Wuppertaler SV .

Career

Homann began playing football in his hometown at SSV Werne, a club to which his father was already a member. Theo Homann senior was the supervisor of the A-youth team with which his son reached the semi-finals of the West German Cup in 1966. He played in the Westphalia team , which made higher-class clubs aware of him. For the 1968/69 season Homann went to the reigning German champions 1. FC Nuremberg . Under coach Max Merkel , he made 13 games for the club, but was not used in the Bundesliga. After the descent of the champions, Homann moved to the second highest division at VfR Mannheim in the Regionalliga Süd . Here he played for two years at the side of Dietmar Danner and Wolfgang Platz and was active in 61 league games with five goals; He then played for one and a half seasons at Westfalia Herne in the Regionalliga West , where he said goodbye to Herne after 40 regional league appearances and nine goals on the final day of the first half of the 1972/73 season - away game at Rot-Weiss Essen on December 17, 1972.

From Herne, Homann again made the leap into the first division. In the winter break of the 1972/73 season he received a contract with the newly promoted Wuppertaler SV. After 49 games with four goals, his Bundesliga career was over. After the WSV was relegated, he tried again to find a connection in the 2nd Bundesliga North , but only made six short appearances for Wuppertal in two seasons and ultimately became disabled.

After the active time

Homann was for a time player-coach at SV Herbern, which he led into the national league. The trained typesetter retrained to become an industrial clerk and in 1983 took over a sports shop in his hometown of Werne, which he ran until his death. He was married and had a daughter.
