action
For several generations, people have been on the spaceship Southern Sun to found a colony on a distant planet. Since the journey will take a very long time, part of the crew decides to mutiny in order to force the illegal establishment of a colony on one of the planets that one passes along the way. After the shuttle ramp was destroyed and some people were murdered who could expose it, the mutineers took control of large parts of the ship. In the form of Dave Ryder, however, the rioters oppose a muscle-bound hero who restores order.
criticism
“The scenery alone says a lot about the film. The interior of the spaceship is partly shot in old, rusted factory buildings and you can see that too. A little more effort would have been worth it. With the special effects, a little less wouldn't have hurt. These are typical 1980s science fiction effects, but even then you would have thought that it didn't look realistic. The producers didn't seem to have thought that far, which is why Space Mutiny is a bit overloaded with it. [...] The decisive component of the hero's uniform seems to be a tank top. For this, the uniforms of the security service could also pass as SA uniforms. […] The ship's name Southern Sun ultimately suggests another, albeit related, organization as a model. And so the logo of the Southern Sun is very reminiscent of SS runes. "
Space Mutiny used complete space scenes from the series Battlestar Galactica from 1978.
“Pretty nonsense: Even if you try to take what is happening seriously , silly things like the good boss's glued-on cotton candy beard, the treacherous SS mark on the chest of the“ double agent ”and the undershirt, which apparently Ryder's uniform is made of, quickly teach you better . Personal highlight: The slowest car chase of all time - looks as if you are in a throttled car scooter. "
