history
The savings bank idea of “giving craftsmen, farmers, day laborers, factory workers and servants the opportunity to invest even the smallest savings safely and profitably”, stems from the humanitarian efforts of the Enlightenment period in the 18th century. In many places, savings banks had proven themselves when the first legal basis for savings banks was created in what was then the Rhine Province with the "Prussian Savings Banks Regulations of 1838".
The history of the Sparkasse Gummersbach-Bergneustadt from 1853 to 2003 can be read in the commemorative publication for the 150th anniversary.
Office of the year 2011
The “Office of the Year” prize, awarded every two years by the specialist magazine “ Geldinstitute ”, was awarded to Sparkasse Gummersbach-Bergneustadt in 2011.
Under the motto “Teamwork”, the Sparkasse had applied for its main office on Gummersbacher Lindenplatz, which was renovated in 2009. On June 21, Markus Vandrey, board member of Sparkasse Gummersbach-Bergneustadt, received the award for the “best main office concept” at the IBM e-Finance Center in Frankfurt as part of the “Bank and Future 2011” conference organized by IBM Germany and Fraunhofer IAO . In the opinion of the jury, in addition to the modern and customer-oriented redesign of the customer hall, the optimal integration of the Naumann travel agency and the Gießelmann coffee roastery, as well as the action forum for events and exhibitions, were decisive for the award of the Gummersbacher concept. We also liked the newly created team worlds on the upper floors with their space economy and communication structure, with the Sparkasse board also sharing a team office. The aim of the competition is to provide financial institutions with new ideas and suggestions.
