history

The savings bank idea of ​​“giving craftsmen, farmers, day laborers, factory workers and servants the opportunity to invest even the smallest savings safely and profitably”, stems from the humanitarian efforts of the Enlightenment period in the 18th century. In many places, savings banks had proven themselves when the first legal basis for savings banks was created in what was then the Rhine Province with the "Prussian Savings Banks Regulations of 1838".
