history

The origin of the Sparkasse Hildesheim goes back to the year 1831, the year of the founding of the Spar-Casse of the city Hildesheim. From what were once nine independent savings banks, which were founded between 1831 and 1883 (Sparkasse des Amtes Gronau), the Kreissparkasse Alfeld, the Kreissparkasse Hildesheim and the Stadtsparkasse Hildesheim were formed over time. In 1997 the Kreissparkasse Hildesheim and Alfeld merged (henceforth Kreissparkasse Hildesheim). In 2005, the district and Stadtsparkasse Hildesheim merged to form Sparkasse Hildesheim, which existed under this name until the end of 2016.

The Sparkasse has been using the Wedekindhaus, built in the 16th century on Hildesheim's market square, since 1900. On March 22, 1945, it was completely destroyed by heavy air raids, as were the Lüntzelhaus and Rolandstift buildings directly adjacent . In its place, the Stadtsparkasse built a simple post-war building in 1950. When the Sparkasse was rebuilt from 1983 to 1986, the facades of the historic buildings were reconstructed. In 2001 the interior of the building was expanded to become the Sparkasse financial center.

Social Commitment

The social commitment of the Sparkasse is implemented through donations, distributions from Sparkasse foundations, the net income from PS savings or sponsoring. Around 600 projects are funded with over 1,600,000 euros.
