Spasenie is a Belarusian Christian and pop rock band from Brest that was formed in 1989.

history

The band was formed in August 1989 when around 150 people spontaneously gathered around a guitarist, a violinist and a saxophonist (young musicians gave an improvised concert in the central park of Brest). The boys were just playing music and suddenly, after a song had ended, they heard applause behind them. That touched them, and the players realized the need to get together in a band.

In the same year they began to rehearse, wrote their first songs and a few months later were invited to tour Sacha .

On their 17th birthday the band gave a big concert with the orchestra in the Palast der Republik , which was released in 2006 on the DVD “17 Live”.

A characteristic of the band is that music is not composed by one but by all members.

The band has been touring abroad very often: with performances, musicians visited the Baltic countries , Ukraine , Romania , Poland , Germany , Canada , Russia , the United States , the United Kingdom , South Korea , South Africa and other regions.

On August 3, 2019, the band celebrated their 30th anniversary with a big concert with the orchestra on Lenin Square in Brest.

Band name

The name "Spasenie" ( Russian Спасение ; German  Heil ) came to the mind of the band members of an unnamed band in the early 1990s when the boys were taking the train to Yakutia, and shows that music is indeed a salvation for them . “God has given everyone a gift, a talent, and a calling. And for a person, the real salvation is to find everything, ”said front man Igor Mucha Wolha Samusik from Musykalnaja Gazeta about the choice of the name in 2005.

Language question

The band sang exclusively in Russian for the first 15 years of their existence , but with the release of the album Crossing the Jordan , the English language was heard much more frequently in their songs. The singer Igor Mucha answered Wolha Samusik from Musykalnaja Gazeta to the language question as follows: “We live in Brest. This is actually the limit. Its special feature is the mixture of languages. There are many words from Ukrainian , Polish ... There was neither the pure Belarusian nor the Russian language. That is why we did not sing in our mother tongue, but in Russian. Although I recognize the indisputable melody of Belarusian, English is also very flexible musically. If we compare it to Russian, because of all these letter combinations 'br', 'str' etc., it is more difficult to sing in it. So it wasn't difficult for us to switch ”.

Social activity

The band organizes the rock music festival competition "X-Star" every year (since 2005) and annually organizes a large youth concert in Brest with the title " Russian Город света " ( German  The City of Light ) (since 2009). The band members are also against abortion .

In 2019, the band, together with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, organized a guided tour entitled “Brest is the city of the Bible ”.
