The Bözberg locking point was a border fortification of the Swiss army . It extends over the table Jura of the Bözberg and around the Bözberg Pass , belonged to Border Brigade 5 and was part of the fourth line of defense behind the Rhine.

history

The two machine guns that were installed in the abutments on the new Felsenau – Koblenz road bridge in 1936 were the first heavy armaments since the Swiss Army stopped building the fortifications at the end of the First World War . This marked the beginning of intensive fortification construction at the crossings on and behind the Rhine ( border fortifications ), in the Tabular Jura and on the heights south of the Limmat position and along the Chain Jura . With the blocking points at the Jura crossings (Aargau Jura position), the canton of Aargau became one of the most densely fortified areas in Switzerland by 1945. The army position in 1939/40 (Limmatstellung, Fall Nord) envisaged the expansion of the Hauenstein area and the Bözberg into bases.

The last construction phase was at the beginning of the 1980s, when 12 cm fortress mine launchers with a range of 10 km were built to replace the decommissioned artillery works to provide artillery support to the blocking points.

Lock point Bözberg / Oberzeihen

In order to block the southern access to the Bözberg, the area of the oak forest near Oberzeihen was provided with a blocking point. In addition to the Eichwald barrier, two smaller barriers were built at Chillholz and Fälmet south of the Homberg.

The Eichwald barrier, built in 1940, comprises a total of 12 infantry bunkers of various designs with various terrain armor obstacles (tank wall, BBB humps ( office for fortifications ), kite teeth, rail obstacles ). The bunkers were armed with a tank can and protected with a barrier (GPH or explosive object). Most of the systems are located on the grounds of the Eichwald Army Shooting Range.

During the Second World War , there were eight gun emplacements in the Eichwald area, including shelters for a heavy field howitzer division. The Homberg A 3962 artillery factory with its four 12 cm howitzers was able to work in this area.
