The Feuerschwand barrier (army designation no. 2408 Fürschwand-Gubel) was a border fortification of the Swiss army . It was located at the Reduite entrance in the Fürschwand-Chnollen area in the canton of Zug . The base of the Reduit Line was built from October 1940, belonged to the operational area of the 6th Division and from 1947 to the Reduit Brigade 24 .

As one of the main bases of the defense front of the 6th Division, the blocking point is a military-historical monument of national importance.

history

During the Second World War , the new army position in the Reduit ordered by General Guisan (Operation Orders No. 11, 12, 13) gave the impetus for the construction of the lock point. The 6th Division was withdrawn from the Limmat position to reinforce the left wing of the 4th Army Corps and was given the task of building the line west of the Etzel - Schindellegi - with its four detachments "Biberbrücke", "Alosen", "Zugerberg" and "Rigi" Gottschalkenberg-Zugerberg-Rigi to hold up to Lake Lucerne and to prevent the opponent from advancing into the Schwyz basin . Advance troops were supposed to prevent an enemy landing on the left bank of Lake Zurich (Oberrieden to Bäch).

The majority of the division was to take up a defensive position behind the Sihl on the Finstersee-Gubel-Allenhaben-Süd exit Zug line, and a department had to close off the area between the Zuger and Vierwaldstättersee lakes with the Oberarth barrier . The order remained unchanged until the end of the reduction period.

The Feuerschwand and Raten barriers formed the section of the reduit border between the Unterägeri barrier and the Schindellegi barrier . This wooded area had some road crossings on which the main road along the Lorze could be bypassed. The blocking points were intended to prevent such a circumvention through an enemy advance from Menzingen in the direction of Ägerisee and Sattel . When building this section of the Reduit Line, the 6th Division took into account its experiences from the Uetliberg Fortress on the Limmat position. From 1940 onwards, more than 150 properties were built in the Canton of Zug within months - carried out by civilian construction companies.

The fortress disposition consisted of several partial barriers, which reinforced the defensive struggle of the infantry regiments and fusilier battalions with tank and infantry obstacles and explosive objects as well as infantry bunkers. They could request artillery fire from the mobile artillery, partly from concrete gun emplacements and from artillery works.

Feuerschwand barrier

The blocking point comprised around 15 infantry units, 10 street barricades and terrain armor obstacles. Flab protection was provided by 20 mm flab cannons in field positions and two flab towers. The construction of the tank obstacles began in October 1940, the bunkers were built from March 1941:

Lockout rates

The Raten barrier (Army designation No. 2413) was connected to the Feuerschwand barrier on the right. She should make a breakthrough over the rates-St. Prevent Jost into the Ägerital and towards the Sattel and vice versa. The Fusilier Battalion 65 occupied eight infantry bunkers with machine guns (MG). The aviator cover was secured with 20 mm flab cannons, one of them on a wooden flab tower.

The partial barrier Altmatt-Schönboden had to stop opponents who had penetrated from the Biberbrücke area. Three bunkers (7.5 cm field cannons, Mg), a 4.7 cm Ik bunker, two Mg bunkers and a small shelter were occupied by the 71 fusilier battalion. In the rear there were two artillery command posts (A 7204, A 7205). Flab Detachment 74 had set up three 20 mm Flab cannons.

Anti-aircraft guided missile position BL-64 ZG "Bloodhound"

Bloodhound BL-64 guided missile on the gubel

The former anti-aircraft missile position BL-64 "Bloodhound" , located between Gubel and Neuhof, is the only surviving one of the six Bloodhound missile positions that were permanently set up in the Swiss plateau and Jura and kept in high readiness without interruption. The plant was in operation from 1964 to 1999. The southern fire unit was then dismantled, while the northern one remained and was placed under monument protection in 2000. Today it serves as a museum and can be visited during guided tours.
