Area forts

The foundation has currently taken over 35 fortifications , which are maintained and, if requested, shown as part of guided tours. Another 40 fortifications are to be taken over.

The fortifications that were taken over all date from the Second World War, which continued to be operated in the post-war years and were equipped with newer types of weapons. These investments should be in dispositive of the 6th Division as part of the national Réduit a shock through the pre-Alpine part of the Canton train in the valley basin of Schwyz on and from there towards the fortress area Gotthard prevent. The infantry fortress dispositiv consisted of several blocked groups, which reinforced the defensive struggle of the infantry regiments and fusilier battalions with tank and infantry obstacles and explosive objects as well as infantry bunkers. These blocking groups were able to request artillery fire from the mobile artillery, partly from concrete gun emplacements and from artillery works in the canton of Schwyz. Anti-aircraft batteries, some on camouflaged wooden towers built into the forest, protected the barriers against air attacks. The bases of these systems are still visible today.

The fortifications consist of street barricades , terrain armor obstacles in the form of tank ditches and tank walls, anti-tank bunkers, machine gun bunkers, shelters, artillery command post caverns, artillery bunkers and permanent artillery beds for the accommodation of field guns of 7.5 cm and 15 cm caliber.

The inventory of the systems already taken over consists of the following plants:

Objects number
Machine gun bunker 16
Anti-tank gun bunker 3
Infantry cannon garage 1

Bloodhound area

The foundation has taken over the operation of the listed anti-aircraft guided missile facility BL-64 ZG "Bloodhound" on the Gubel in the municipality of Menzingen. The facility can be viewed on guided tours. The anti-aircraft guided missile position BL-64 ZG “Bloodhound” is the only one of the formerly six British Bloodhound Mark II missile positions that were permanently set up in the Swiss Central Plateau and Jura and kept in high readiness without interruption . The anti-aircraft guided missiles "Bloodhound" were procured as a group for the protection of the Swiss airspace together with the Mirage III fighter aircraft and the early warning radar system " Florida ". The three systems have been in use from the 1960s up to and including the turn of the millennium. Their tasks are taken over today by the F / A-18 Hornet fighter aircraft and the new Florako radar system . The ground-based anti-aircraft guided missile "Bloodhound" has not received a successor system as such. The entire facility continues to be owned by the Confederation or the Department of Defense (DDPS). One of the former two fire units of the guided missile position is under cantonal monument protection . In the summer half of the year, several of the eight missile launchers will be equipped with original but inert missiles. The complete electronic and mechanical equipment is at its original location. The main components of the missile position are: command bunker with deployment point, target lighting radar, power supply system with diesel generators, missile launcher, underground missile magazines, a collimation tower and transmission systems. There is a well-developed road network within the facility, and the troop camp in the entrance area is still used by the DDPS. A retrofitted orientation room with exhibits of electronics and missile technology serves to impart knowledge during visits. The anti-aircraft missile position BL-64 ZG “Bloodhound” is the only visitable anti-aircraft missile position in Europe and the only one of its type worldwide.
