Religious center

Since the 16th century, hermits have looked after a battle and pilgrimage chapel built in 1566, which commemorates the Catholic victory over the Reformed towns of the old Swiss Confederation in the Battle of Gubel on October 24, 1531. On the ceiling inside there is a representation of the battle, which was renewed after the fire in the chapel in 1780. The present rococo-style building was last renovated in 1864.

The monastery was built between 1843 and 1847 to mark the three hundredth anniversary of the battle and in 1851 it was subordinate to the Bishop of Basel . A community of sisters still lives there today, who mainly live from parament embroidery .

The Gasthaus Gubel is one of the oldest in the canton of Zug. In 2012 the monastery decided to sell the restaurant due to financial difficulties. In addition, the monastery owns a farm and several houses.
