action

Alexandra and Jason are on a sailing trip in the open sea when they are surprised by a severe storm. Their sailor sinks, and the two drift on the rough seas until they are rescued by a passing container ship. Captain Bigelow's ship picks them up and Dr. Grbac cares for Jason, who has sustained a wound. He is injected with an alleged antibiotic, which repeatedly puts him in a kind of twilight state. As a result, Jason seems increasingly strange to Alexandra, which leads to the fact that she often messes with Captain Bigelow. Jason suspects that something is wrong on the ship, for example because it is only half full and according to the position of the sun it is always going in circles.

With the knowledge of Bigelow and the crew on board the ship, the alleged ship's doctor maintains a secret laboratory in which he conducts experiments with spiders. With the aim of crossing humans and spiders, he mixes their DNA by implanting the genome of the spiders in kidnapped humans and thus abusing the victims as host animals. The huge creatures created in this way are held captive in special cages and fed with human corpses.

When Jason wakes up from a nightmare, he searches the ship and finds the storage room with the bodies in a cold room. He tries to alert Alexandra and inform her of the machinations of the crew, but the crew does not believe him and is convinced by Bigelow that Jason is sick and urgently in the care of Dr. Grbac must be given. Grbac, however, sees Jason as an ideal host for the spiders and, after drawing blood from him as an antidote, uses spider eggs. After Bigelow tries to get close to Alexandra, she notices that Jason was telling the truth and tries to find and free him. In doing so, it paralyzes the ship's power supply, which leads to all of the giant spiders being released. The monsters gradually kill the entire crew. Alexandra is able to free Jason, she also manages to recover the antidote from the laboratory and to cure Jason. Dr. Grbac initially survives, but is killed by a giant spider shortly before he can get into a lifeboat. Jason and Alexandra manage to sink the ship and save themselves at sea. When a coast guard helicopter tries to save the two, one of the monster spiders manages to cling to the two of them, but Alexandra manages to kill them at the last second.

reception

“Even trash fans should be displeased with the dreary mess. It only gets halfway amusing through the spiders ", judges the editorial staff of Cinema and draws the conclusion:" Lame nonsense about spiders and nuts ". Marcus Littwin, however, certifies Spiders 2 a coherent atmosphere and an exciting, entertaining story. For him it is "one of the best animal horror films from the film company Nu Image."
