Playrooms special

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spielraum spezial was aweekly music program of the Austrian radio station Ö1 , initiated in2003 by Wolfgang Kos and initiallysupervisedby Mirjam Jessa, later by Michael Schrott . The program, originally intended as a supplement to the game rooms, was broadcast on Sundays between 5:10 pm and 5:56 pm until December 31, 2006. - In November 2009, as part of a program reform, it was decided tobroadcast 46-minute specialty programs again on public holidays instead of the 26-minute playrooms program.

history

As part of an Ö1 program reform, the Sunday program Spielraum Spezial was started at the beginning of 2003, which was supposed to present musical styles and musicians in close-up portraits:

“The 'play spaces' during the week with world music, jazz and folk music have proven their worth. The 26 minutes from Monday to Friday, however, do not offer enough space to present portraits and series, like the 'Newport Folk Festival'. On Sunday, when many are driving home in their cars, this is an ideal place for this music genre. "

The first game room special , which was dedicated to music from the Mississippi Delta under the title "Delta Blues", was designed by Wolfgang Kos and broadcast on January 5th, 2003. In July 2005, the then producer Mirjam Jessa handed over the responsibility for broadcasting Spielraum spezial to Michael Schrott , who held this position until the change of broadcast format at the end of 2006. At that time, as part of a small radio reform, the transmission time was reduced from 46 minutes to 26 minutes. At the same time, the remaining broadcasting slot was reallocated to the Spielräume Sunday edition. For the creation of detailed band and musician portraits, this shortening of the broadcasting time has had a negative effect, since the life's work of bands and musicians with a long career cannot be clearly illustrated in 26 minutes. Such portraits were particularly characteristic of the three quarters of an hour program Spielraum Spezial . It had a verbal portion of 15 minutes and a music portion of 31 minutes and thus made it possible at least roughly to sketch the life and work of the portrayed, even if this spanned several decades.

In November 2009, as part of a program reform, it was decided on public holidays to broadcast 46-minute specialty programs again instead of the 26-minute playrooms program.
