Spinball Whizzer , 2010-2015 Sonic Spinball , in Alton Towers ( Alton , Staffordshire , UK ) is a Spinning - steel coaster on the model Xtended SC 2200 the manufacturer Maurer , which opened on March 27 of 2004.
The track is designed as a large pinball machine , with the carriages representing the balls.
Spinball Whizzer owns eight cars. Four people (two rows of two people, back to back) can be seated in each car. The rotation of the cars is determined by the number and weight of the passengers.
In early January 2010, rumors of a re-thematization by the park were confirmed. From 2010 to 2015, the roller coaster went under the name Sonic Spinball, named after Sonic the Hedgehog , a character from the game manufacturer Sega and the corresponding game Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball .
