Spiritual Instinct is the title of the sixth studio album by the French Blackgaze duo Alcest , which will be released on October 25, 2019 by Nuclear Blast worldwide.
The regular album contains six tracks. A special edition with bonus CD also contains modified versions of the songs Protection and Sapphire.
Emergence
Alcest announced that the Kodama tour cycle would end at the end of 2018 and said they had already worked on new material for what is now the sixth studio album. The first track Neige wrote for the album is called Protection . The album was recorded in the Drudenhaus studio by Benoît Roux ; the album cover comes from the pen of the graphic designer duo Førtifem. Neige described recording the album as a "long and challenging process."
On April 11, 2019, the duo announced that they had signed a record deal with Nuclear Blast .

Spiritual Instinct's artwork shows a sphinx in the style of the symbolic art movement. Neige describes the Sphinx as "the ultimate embodiment of a mystery" that unites both the spiritual and the animal side of man.
music
On Spiritual Instinct the singing of Neige, which in some songs is a fantasy language consisting only of vowels, is described as spherical. The tempo is mostly in the middle range. From time to time singer Neige also uses screaming . At times, musical similarities can be heard on the instrumental level with Tool or Dead Can Dance . The song Le Miroir describes folk borrowings in music that almost evoke a medieval association. The duo adorns their well-known sound with musical innovations.
Publications
On August 23, 2019, the duo released their first single Protection and simultaneously released a music video produced by Craig Murray. About a month later, the second single followed with Sapphire, including the music video also shot by Murray.
Spiritual Instinct has been announced for October 25, 2019.

In addition to the previously published single releases, Alcest announced a European tour that will be played between February and March 2020. This tour is accompanied by the French band Birds in Row and the Darkwave trio Kælan Mikla from Iceland .
