Location and landscape
The mountain rises north of the main ridge of the western Lienz Dolomites above the East Tyrolean Pustertal . The summit is located in the municipality of Anras , the southeast flank belongs to Obertilliach , which is already in the Tyrolean Gailtal . The official altitude refers to the north summit with the summit cross, the south summit is 2275 m above sea level. A. higher.
The free-standing block is connected to the south via the Folmasai saddle ( 2113 m above sea level ) with the Pfannegg ( 2248 m above sea level ), which is about 1½ km south. Here the main ridge of the western roofing of the Dolomites runs from Golzentipp ( 2248 m above sea level ) southeast to the Dorfberg ( 2115 m above sea level ) southwest. To the east rises the Breitenstein ( 2304 m above sea level ), to the west the already wooded Rauchkofel ( 1959 m above sea level ). The ridge stretches north to the Rainer Berg ( 1831 m above sea level ), and then breaks off suddenly to the Drau at Margarethenbrücke .
The Jochbach rises in the basin to the west and the Griesbach to the east , whose headwaters are the Folmasaialpe, which already belongs to Obertilliach.

You climb the mountain from the south. The paths from Abfaltersbach , located in the Pustertal west of Anras, lead over the Rauchkofel into the Folmasai saddle, there are several variants, some on forest paths. There a via ferrata leads the last 125 meters above the Matten to the summit. The passage over the summit to the summit cross is impassable but secured.
The Gailtaler Höhenweg runs south over Golzentipp – Dorfberg , the path from the Folmasai saddle over the ridge to it is marked. You can also get on the high trail from Obertilliach or Kartitsch .
