The Spitzkofel is 2223  m above sea level. A. the third highest peak of the Jauken mountain range in western Carinthia.

It stands in the middle of the 120 km long mountain range of the Gailtal Alps , but due to its ruggedness it is only suitable as a destination for experienced mountaineers. To the north it slopes down into the Jaukengraben with numerous, also overhanging rock spurs and an average of over 100% inclination, to the east with steep rubble and block heaps to the deeply cut Ochsenschlucht . Just above this gorge, the northern ascent leads on a forest road and a shady path to an alpine pasture and the Jaukensattel , from which the southeast ridge allows a relatively easy ascent to the summit.

The cirque in the north is completely inaccessible, and the Gailtaler Höhenweg gives way to the limestone block on its southern flank - about 500 to 600 meters below the summit. The neighboring peaks to the west are the Mitterkofel ( 2247  m ) and the Jauken ( 2276  m ).
