The timeless sprout ( Colchicum soboliferum ) is a species of the timeless genus ( Colchicum ) in the timeless family (Colchicaceae).

The timeless sprout is a perennial tuber that reaches heights of 3 to 6 centimeters. The tubers are 7 to 15 millimeters in diameter. The horizontal ground rungs are 2 to 5 (9.5) centimeters long and 3 to 8 millimeters thick. The 3 (rarely 4) leaves measure 2 to 10 × 0.3 to 0.9 centimeters at flowering time, later they reach 10 to 27 × 0.3 to 1.6 (2) centimeters. Usually there is only one, rarely up to 3 flowers . The tepal blade is linear to narrowly elliptical, usually has auricles at the base, is white, pale pink or purple-pink in color and measures 17 to 40 × 2 to 5 (8) millimeters. The anthers are gray-yellow to black-purple.

The flowering period extends from February to March.

Occurrence

The timeless sprout comes in the east of the Balkans, in south and central Turkey, in Syria, in Transcaucasia, in north and west Iran, in Turkmenia, in Afghanistan and in southwest Tajikistan on moist grass slopes, patches of snow and spring meadows. Margins at altitudes of (200) 1000 to 2400 meters.

The timeless sprout is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens. The species has been in culture since 1835 at the latest.
