Spyros Trikoupis

Spyros Trikoupis ( Greek Σπύρος Τρικούπης , * 1888 in Athens ; † January 12, 1945 in Arachova ) was a Greek lawyer , publicist and politician .

Life

Spyros Trikoupis comes from the Trikoupis family from Messolongi in Aetolia-Acarnania , which provided many politicians and soldiers. Spyros Trikoupis was born in Athens in 1888 , the son of Kostandinos Trikoupis . He studied law at the University of Athens and was licensed to teach in 1912. After 1912 he dealt with literature and theater and founded the philosophical journal "Dafni" (Δάφνη). He also worked on several magazines such as “Noumas” ( Greek Νουμάς ), “Pinakothiki” ( Greek Πινακοθήκη ), “Panathinea” ( Greek Παναθήναια ) and worked as a lawyer.

In 1920 he became Director of Trade and Industry in the Greek Ministry of Economy and then Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy under Prime Minister Dimitrios Gounaris. After the death of his father, Spyros Trikoupis went to Messolongi and took over the leadership of the local party. 1926 was elected for the first time as a member of the Greek parliament for Messolongi. In 1932 he became State Secretary under Prime Minister Panagis Tsaldaris and shortly afterwards Minister for Epirus. After the elections of May 5, 1933, he acted as deputy speaker of parliament until he was deputy minister of economy from 1934 to 1935 and, after a government reshuffle in Tsaldari's second cabinet, was again minister for Epirus in 1935.

After the Dekemvriana in December 1944 he was abducted from Athens to Arachova by fighters of the communist-dominated ELAS and executed there on January 12, 1945.
