Srpski Krstur ( Cyrillic : Српски Крстур , Hungarian Ókeresztúr ) is a place in the municipality of Novi Kneževac in the Serbian district of Severni Banat . The place is located in the autonomous province of Vojvodina in Serbia , about five kilometers from the Hungarian and about 20 kilometers from the Romanian border.

According to the last survey in 2005, the place has 1,396 inhabitants, of which the Serbs are the absolute majority. The Roma with about 25% and the Hungarians with about 10% form the largest minorities in the area.

Srpski Krstur is located in the southern area of ​​the Pannonian lowlands in the Banat region. The place is surrounded by fields used for agriculture, which shape almost the entire landscape of the region. The main source of income for the place is agriculture. There is a temperate continental climate. An average of around 500 mm of precipitation falls annually. The Tisza flows west of Srpski Krsur from the north in the direction of Novi Kneževac past the village.

history

Srpski Krstur is mentioned for the first time in 1715 under the name Kereztur . Later the place got other names like u. a. Papok , Kereztur , Papkereztur , Kistur and Keresztes . Today's name Srpski Krstur can be roughly translated as Serbian cross .
