The Zirndorf Municipal Museum is a museum in the center of the Central Franconian town of Zirndorf . It is dedicated to the history and development of the Zirndorf tin toy industry as well as the history of Zirndorf during the Thirty Years War . It is located in a listed building complex at Spitalstrasse 2, 4 and 4b in Zirndorf. The main building is a half-timbered house from the 18th century.

history

The oldest traces of the building can be dated to the 17th century. The current building was built in the first half of the 18th century. The client is not known. At that time, a Zirndorfer ran an inn and a hostel called Zum Hirschen at this location. The property was given the nickname “Glockengießerhaus” by the bell founder Wolfgang Roth, who was called to Zirndorf from Ansbach in 1663 to cast the third bell for the St. Rochus Church . During his stay he was accommodated in this inn. The western and southern buildings received extensions as early as the 19th century.

In the 19th century, the first pharmacy in Zirndorf was in the western part of the building . The rooms of the building were used as apartments at that time. The Scheidler cardboard factory was located around 1913. In the 1950s to 1960s, a shop and a specialty store for radio equipment were located there. Since around 1989 the building has been renovated by the city of Zirndorf. In 1995 the renovation work was completed. Since then, the building has housed the Zirndorf municipal museum. It was entered in the list of monuments of the town of Zirndorf under the number “D-5-73-134-44” .

Collections

Permanent exhibitions

The thematic focus on the ground floor is the history and development of the Zirndorf toy industry. In the immediate vicinity of the well-known toy cities of Nuremberg and Fürth , simple tin toys have been produced in Zirndorf since the middle of the 19th century and plastic toys since the middle of the 20th century. The upper floor of the museum is dedicated to the history of Zirndorf during the Thirty Years War. In 1632, near the Alte Veste , where Commander-in-Chief Albrecht von Wallenstein had set up a camp, there was a warlike encounter with Gustav II Adolf of Sweden . Dioramas and models as well as contemporary descriptions of camp life, the fate of the soldiers and the civilian population illustrate this chapter of the Franconian war history.
