The Stör Bridge is a road bridge near Itzehoe over a kilometer long , which spans the Stör - classified as a maritime shipping route in this section .

The first bridge was opened in 1967 as part of federal highway 5 . Between 2007 and 2015, this was replaced by two parallel bridges on federal highway 23 .

superstructure

The (last) three-lane high bridge, originally with two lanes and hard shoulders on both sides, was built between 1965 and 1967 with 26 openings, a total length of 1160 m and a width of 16 m. The prestressed concrete structure consists of three sections.

The first section is the 392 m long, southern ramp bridge. It has nine openings, each with a 40 m span. In the tenth, 44 m long field, a Gerber joint is arranged after 32 m as a transition construction to the river bridge. In the longitudinal direction, the building system is a continuous beam with a constant construction height of 2.8 m. There is a two-web T- beam in the transverse direction . The webs have a center distance of approximately 7.8 m and 1.35 m wide flanges.

The following 256 m long, three-span river bridge has spans of 58.5 m in the two peripheral fields and 115 m in the main field. The superstructure protrudes 12 m at both ends to the Gerber joint. The building system is a continuous beam in the longitudinal direction. The vouted superstructure has a maximum construction height of 6.5 m above the bank piers. In the transverse direction there is a two-bar T-beam, which has a base plate to absorb large compressive forces in the area of the bank piers. The maximum height of the structure is 22 m.

The last part is the 512 m long northern ramp bridge. The structure has twelve openings, each with a 40 m span. The 44 m long transition area to the river bridge, as well as the cross-section, are designed as for the southern ramp bridge.

Substructures and foundation

The superstructures rest on hollow reinforced concrete pillars arranged in pairs. These are based on bored piles or driven piles . Only the pillars of the main opening and the abutments have a flat foundation .

Repairs

Due to inadequate bracket reinforcement at the two longitudinally movable joint joints, the Gerber joints, cracks in the concrete were observed in the area of the brackets and cross members. The first repair took place in 1983. Six vertical tendons were installed on each footbridge. The cost was 730,000 DM.

From 1997 to 1999 steel support structures had to be installed under the Gerber joints. The cost was 1.8 million euros. In an appraisal from 1998, the bridge was attested to have a remaining useful life of 10 to 15 years due to its state of construction.

As part of the expansion of federal highway 5 to BAB 23 , the bridge from 1967 will be replaced by two separate bridges lying next to each other. Construction began on January 10, 2007. On June 19, 2010, the first new bridge, which will accommodate the north carriageway of the new motorway, was inaugurated. On this day the building was open to pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge has been open to motor vehicle traffic since the end of June 2010. This was followed by the demolition of the old bridge and the construction of the second superstructure. On October 24, 2015, the second bridge was opened with a community festival, opened to traffic on November 19, 2015.

The new bridge structures are each 15 m wide, 1155 m long and 19 openings structurally identical. The Stör is crossed with tied arch bridges that span 120 m and have a composite construction as a deck .

The ramp bridges are planned as a composite cross-section and have the continuous girder as a structural system in the longitudinal direction at a constant construction height of around 3.0 m. A single-cell hollow box composite cross-section is provided in the transverse direction. For the northern ramp bridges, 10 fields with a length of 580 m are planned. The spans increase from the abutment from 45 m over 50 m, 55 m and 5 × 60 m to 2 × 65 m. Eight fields and a length of 455 m are planned for the southern ramp bridges. The spans increase from the abutment from 42 m over 50 m, 55 m and 3 × 60 m to 2 × 64 m. The bridge structure will have a deep foundation with up to 20 m long in-situ concrete driven piles. Bored piles with a diameter of 90 cm and lengths of up to 22 m are used in four axes due to the proximity to the existing Stör Bridge.

Trivia

On February 5, 2011, a marathon was held on the old Stör Bridge, which is now closed to car traffic . Twenty laps with a length of 2120 meters each had to be covered.
