St-Érasme is a Roman Catholic chapel in Blienschwiller in Alsace ( Bas-Rhin department ). The chapel and the cross in front of the church are registered in the register of cultural heritage of France.

history

The chapel was probably built on Gallo-Roman foundations in the 13th century by the Cistercian Baumgarten Abbey . The first documentary mention was made in 1371. The chapel was originally under the patronage of Our Lady . In 1666 the Erasmus of Antioch patronage was mentioned for the first time .

The chapel was completely renovated in the 17th century. The Gothic portal comes from the parish church of Sts-Innocents and was installed in the 18th century in place of the older Romanesque portal. During renovation work in 1965, remains of the frescoes, probably from the 14th century, including a representation of the dance of death , were destroyed. At the same time, traces of five Romanesque windows and the old portal were discovered under the plaster.
