Andreas Jankowitsch
Andreas Jankowitsch (* 1971 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera singer, bass baritone.
life and career
Andreas Jankowitsch was a soprano soloist with the Vienna Boys' Choir , learned to play the piano, and studied organ concert with Rudolf Scholz at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in Vienna. After completing his studies, he enrolled for composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts with Iván Eröd , but ended this course early because he was studying singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts with Franz Lukasovsky , Walter Berry , Michael Temme and Robert Holl Vienna, was busy and saw it as his calling.
During his studies he was engaged at the Salzburg State Theater and, as a young singer, sang “old” roles such as Arnolphe in Rolf Liebermann's Die Schule der Frauen or Baculus in Albert Lortzing's Der Wildschütz , working with conductors such as Hubert Soudant and Stéphane Denève and directors such as Harry Kupfer , Gert-Hagen Seebach and Thomas Schulte-Michels .
After two years in the ensemble, Jankowitsch decided to try his luck as a freelance singer. His first engagement took him to Bregenz, where he sang the role of Leporello in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Kornmarkttheater . This first opera production was conducted by Tobias Moretti by Christoph Eberle.
His further career took him to Germany ( Wuppertaler Bühnen , Theater Freiburg , Komische Oper Berlin , Haus der Berliner Festspiele , Theater Bonn ), the Netherlands (Theater Rotterdam Schouwburg, Theater aan het Vrijthof, Maastricht), Belgium ( Vlaamse Opera ), France ( Opéra de Dijon , Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux ), Spain (Teatro Principal de Alicante, Teatro Principal Zaragoza) and in Austrian houses ( Vienna State Opera , Theater an der Wien , Vienna Chamber Opera , Salzburg State Theater , Baden Stage , Vorarlberg State Theater ), independent venues such as the Neue Oper Wien , Sirene Operntheater , Taschenoper Wien, as well as to the most famous festivals ( Salzburg Festival , Bregenz Festival , Styriarte Graz, Carinthian Summer and the Vienna Festival Weeks ).
He worked with conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Franz Welser-Möst , Bertrand de Billy , Simone Young , Leo Hussain , Ingo Metzmacher , Kyrill Petrenko , Dennis Russell Davies , Marc Albrecht , Claus Peter Flor or Peter Keuschnig , as well as directors such as Harry Kupfer , Hans Neuenfels , Torsten Fischer , Tobias Moretti , Keith Warner , Christof Loy , Caroline Gruber together.
Andreas Jankowitsch is also an interpreter of contemporary music. As a so-called “fast student” he sang in world premieres of works by the composers Péter Eötvös , Wolfgang Mitterer , Gerhard E. Winkler, Stephan Winkler , Wolfram Wagner , Bernhard Lang , Bruno Strobl and interpreted pieces from Arnold Schönberg to Tsippi Fleischer.
Andreas Jankowitsch has also performed as a concert singer, including in New York's Carnegie Hall , the Boston Symphony Hall , the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Wiener Musikverein , the Wiener Konzerthaus , the Brucknerhaus Linz as an interpreter of oratorios from Johann Sebastian Bach to Karol Szymanowski .
