Bruno Strobl

Bruno Strobl (born February 26, 1949 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian composer and conductor . He has been President of the IGNM Austria Section since 2008 .

Life

Strobl studied clarinet and theory with Alois Jäger at the Klagenfurt Conservatory from 1968 to 1976 . From 1973 to 2003 he was a music teacher at the Federal High School Porcia Spittal an der Drau. From 1978 to 1981 he received private composition lessons from Nikolaus Fheodoroff . From 1983 to 1987 he studied clarinet , music theory and composition with Dieter Kaufmann at the Carinthian State Conservatory .

Since 1977 he has been chairman of the Carinthia section of the IGNM Austria. From 1978 to 1990 he organized the Carinthian master classes for contemporary music. From 1987 to 1995 he headed the vocal ensemble Vox Nova . Since 1988 he has been the conductor of the Ensemble Kreativ , with whom he premiered several pieces. Since 1991 he has been the initiator of the Expan festival in Spittal an der Drau. From 1993 to 1995 he worked at the creative workshop in Klagenfurt. He was several times head of the Klangspectrum Villach. Since 2002 he has been the project manager of NeueBühneVillach and since 2005 of MusikFabrikSüd. Since 2008 he has been President of the Austria Section of the International Society for New Music (IGNM).

His music has been performed at home and abroad a. a. at the Styrian Autumn Festival , at Wien Modern , at the Dresden Days of Contemporary Music , at aspects Salzburg and the IGNM World Music Days in Budapest. In July 2017 his church opera Hemma was premiered at the Carinthian Summer , which is subtitled A Woman Passion and traces the story of Hemma von Gurk . The libretto for the opera comes from the writer Franzobel . It was directed by Kristine Tornquist , the title role was sung by the French mezzo-soprano Juliette Mars .
