IGNM section Austria
The IGNM Austria section is the Austrian section of the International Society for New Music .
history
The Austria section, like the umbrella organization, was founded in Salzburg in 1922. From 1926 it was organized as an association. Austria hosted the IGNM World Music Days three times in the prewar period, namely in 1923 and 1924 in Salzburg and 1932 in Vienna. Due to National Socialist terror, the association was forcibly dissolved in 1938. However, numerous scores and manuscripts by Jewish composers were hidden in the Universal Edition by members Josef Polnauer , Erwin Ratz , Alfred Schlee and Friedrich Wildgans and saved until after the war. The first programs were given in 1945 in the Vienna Konzerthaus . Many world premieres are recorded by the Austrian radio .
The influence of the Austrian section on the ISCM remained unbroken even after Anton Webern's work . In 1946, Austrian diplomats brought the umbrella organization into UNESCO . In 1960 the section members founded the Austrian Music Council . The International Music Center was launched a year later . The Austrian lawyer Franz Eckert contributed significantly to the statutes of the umbrella organization.
Other World Music Days in Austria after the war took place in 1952 in Salzburg, 1961 in Vienna, 1972 and 1982 in Graz and in 2013 in Kosice / Bratislava / Vienna. In addition, the Austrian section campaigned for the festival in Slovenia in 2003 and Croatia in 2005. In 1988 it organized the symposium Ideas, Ideologies and Realities with Gertraud Cerha , György Ligeti and Katarina Noever . One followed in 1991 on the 40th anniversary of Arnold Schönberg's death and in 1996 with the topic of Open Regions - world music as a guest in Vienna .
Members of the Austrian section founded ensembles such as Ensemble die reihe , Klangforum Wien and Arnold Schoenberg Choir as well as international festivals such as Steirischer Herbst , Aspects Salzburg and Wien Modern .
The organization is currently based in Vienna (House of Composers, Olzeltgasse ). The field of activity extends to the Republic of Austria (including the representations in the federal states). The main aim is to spread contemporary music .
