Marc Albrecht

Marc Albrecht (* 1964 ) is a German conductor . He is the son of the conductor George Alexander Albrecht (* 1935) and cousin of the politician Ursula von der Leyen .

Career

Marc Albrecht studied with his father, then in Vienna , where he assisted Claudio Abbado with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra . After engagements at the Hamburg State Opera (in 1988 as assistant to the unrelated General Music Director Gerd Albrecht ), Marc Albrecht became General Music Director at the Staatstheater Darmstadt in 1995 . From 2001 to 2004 he worked as a freelance conductor and made guest appearances in Europe and overseas.

As a concert orchestra Albrecht led a. a. the Berlin and Munich Philharmonic , the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the City of Birmingham Orchestra , the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe , the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Orchester national de Lyon.

In the music theater sector, Albrecht has so far been active at the Bayreuth Festival , the Salzburg Festival , the Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Deutsche Oper Berlin (2001 to 2004 Principal Guest Conductor), the Semperoper Dresden and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. In the 2008/2009 season he made his debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London.

In 2004 and 2005 he was designated music director of the Strasbourg Philharmonic , from 2006 to 2011 . Since the 2011/2012 season he has been chief conductor of the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest , the Nederlands Kamerorkest and the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. He is the winner of the International Opera Award 2019 .
