Interior before restoring the roof

St-Philibert de Lanvern is a Roman Catholic chapel and former priory church in Plonéour-Lanvern in the Finistère department in Brittany . The chapel has been classified as a monument historique since 1926 .

history

St-Philibert was built in the 14th century in place of a previous building of the priory of the Benedictine Abbey of Landévennec, founded in the 11th century . The church was dedicated to St. Philibert , the first abbot of Jumièges Abbey , and expanded in the following centuries.

The nave from the 16th century forms the core of the church. This is followed by a south aisle with a transept-like chapel. In addition, an older ossuary has been incorporated into the south wing . The three-aisled choir from the 15th century opens up behind a Gothic archway. In front of the choir arch there is another side chapel to the north. Following the uprising against the paper tax in 1675, the top was removed from the bell tower on the instructions of Louis XIV .

After the chapel was in poor condition as early as 1930, the roof finally collapsed after the Second World War. After a long period of renovation, the building was restored with a new roof in 2012.
