St Winoc Church

St-Winoc is the Roman Catholic parish church of Plouhinec ( Département Finistère ) in Brittany . The church has been classified as a Monument historique since 1932 .

history

The parish church, which is under the patronage of St. Winoc , was built in the 16th century on the plan of a Latin cross in place of an older church that was consecrated to St. Conogan. The mighty west tower, the transept and the choir date from the time it was built. The design of the tower follows the model of the Pont-Croix building school . In the 18th century, the nave and probably the north transept were rebuilt and the south and north vestibules added. The sacristy was built in 1769. In 1823 the parish received a relic of St. Winoc from Bergues , where the Abbey of St-Winoc had been located until the French Revolution , and only a few ruins have survived since then.
