St. Georgii Chapel Wernigerode

The Wernigeröder St. Georgii Chapel is located on the Graf-Henrich- Brücke on Ilsenburger Strasse , where the Zillierbach and Holtemme flow together.

history

Count Konrad IV founded Wernigerode middle. Of the 14th century , the Hospital of St. Georgii with the small chapel of the same name. The St. Georgii Chapel, first mentioned in a document in 1347, was expanded in 1635 to include a half-timbered vestibule with a baroque bell tower . In the course of renovations and extensions between 1868 and 1869, the building was given its current appearance.

The St. Georgii Chapel is today the church of the Evangelical Church Community Wernigerode .

Furnishing

The original rich and precious interior of St. Georgii Chapel is now partly in the Wernigeröder St. Sylvestri church kept, such as in the former sacristy located late Gothic altarpiece .
