St. Johannes Chapel (Davenstedt)

The Evangelical Lutheran St. John's Chapel is a church in Hanover-Davenstedt . It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of St. Johannes Davenstedt.

Building

The chapel dates from 1790 and is the oldest building in Davenstedt. The framework of the chapel is arranged symmetrically. The rectangular church stands on a raised stone base and is closed by a gable roof . A bell-shaped dome crowns the building on the north side of the roof . The entrance door is heavily profiled and offers a contrast to the chapel, which is kept simple on the outside. The interior is shaped by the altar with its baroque design and the eagle as a symbol of the Evangelist John . The ceiling is decorated with tendrils and flowers, in which the evangelist symbols are incorporated. The windows of the chapel are made of lead glass and depict the Passion of Christ . Johan Meier's bell in Celle dates back to 1635. The previous bell was melted down during the Thirty Years War because cannons were cast from the material. The Johannes chapel is next to the Johanneskirche from 1989 and the chapel in Velber the third sacred building of the community.

Cultural events such as readings also take place in the St. John's Chapel.
