St. Michaelis Chapel in Müssingen

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Michaelis Chapel is a field stone chapel in the Müssingen district of the Soltendieck community in the Uelzen district in Lower Saxony . The chapel from the 14th century is one of the most important medieval buildings still preserved in the Uelzen district and the surrounding area.

location

The chapel is located on the northern edge of Müssingen. It stands on a lawn and is accessible via a narrow path that runs between two neighboring properties. The lawn is surrounded by trees on all sides. A few meters to the south there are residential and agricultural buildings.

architecture

The small chapel is a rectangular hall building with a semicircular east end. It has largely been preserved in its original condition from the 14th century and was built almost exclusively from field stone masonry . Exceptions are the frames of a rectangular window enlarged in the 19th century and the segmental arch of the south entrance made of brick . At the western end of the roof ridge , the chapel has a small with slate -covered roof skylights .

The interior is simply designed. Consecration crosses are attached to the white walls . On the masonry altar table there is a discreet altarpiece that almost extends to the wooden beam ceiling of the chapel.

Church organization

Today the chapel belongs to the Schnega parish in the Lüchow-Dannenberg parish . Services are no longer held regularly in the chapel.
