history

Around 800, Hessio, defeated by Charlemagne , founded the Aegidien chapel on his retreat in Heßberg . The Aegidienkirche, built in place of the chapel in 1425, is a jewel. The church tower is built in the half-timbered "Wilder Mann" style. Inside the church has a visibly floating stone Gothic triumphal arch in the choir and above the baptismal font with fine foliage. The cross vault has fluted ribs. The galleries are baroque with pictures of the life of Jesus and the twelve apostlespainted. In the summer of 1982 the church and the tower were renovated outside.

In 1995 the organ was renewed and from 2000 the church was renewed and repaired in accordance with the principles of monument conservation.
