St. Aegidien

The Protestant town church of St. Aegidien is in the Oberlind district of the city of Sonneberg in the Sonneberg district in Thuringia .

history

This town church stands on the site of a chapel from 1100. In 1444, the Oberlind church was first mentioned on a document. The citizens donated an altar for the church . In 1479 two citizens of Oberlind fought at the College of Cardinals in Rome for the decree of the 100 day indulgence of church punishments for everyone. But it was even increased, but soon passed. Soon a moat and a fortification wall were built around the church . St. Aegidien became a permanent castle.

Important dates of development

In 1525 Oberlind was given an independent parish . Church registers were kept as early as 1525 . From 1618 to 1648, the Thirty Years' War had to endure constant tribulations from bellicose hordes. Good thing the church was fortified. In 1650 the church choir was mentioned and it can be concluded that the spiritual life developed again. From 1692 the church was completely renovated. The nave was given a mansard roof and the sides of the galleries were installed. A picture story with themes from the Bible was displayed in preferred places in the room.

The triumphal arch has been raised. The choir received a cross vault . The pulpit was built. The Coburg court painter painted the ceiling painting , while Tyrolean artists carried out the stucco work. The roofs were covered with slate . The organ was worrying.

From 1722 the church received a pewter crucifix for the altar. In 1781 the congregation established the new cemetery behind the church. The big bell rang for the first time in 1782 . The tower weather cock was renewed in 1928. In 1990 a heating system was installed and in 2006 the gallery painting was restored.
