The Roman Catholic Church of St. Alfons in Maßbach , a market in Lower Franconia, is dedicated to St. Alfonso Maria de Liguori .

The church is one of the architectural monuments of Maßbach and is registered under the number D-6-72-131-8 in the Bavarian list of monuments .

history

After the attempt to build a Catholic church in Maßbach in the 18th century failed by the municipality's magistrate, today's St. Alfons Church was built between 1867 and 1876. Initially, the sandstone building was a branch church of Thundorf in Lower Franconia .

It became the parish church of Maßbach on April 1, 1952 when the parish of Maßbach was founded. In the 1960s, the interior was completely redesigned. On September 15, 1967, the new altar was consecrated.

Description and equipment

The western three-eighth choir has two ogival windows. A pointed choir arch separates it from the nave with five window axes . The windows in the side walls are also ogival, as are the two windows in the western gable wall. A rose window is arranged above the main portal there . The roof turret rises above the gable wall with a rhombic roof and ogival sound windows .

The flat-roofed church has recently been redesigned. Above the chancel arch a hanging crucifix . On the left and right of the choir arch are figures of Our Lady and the church patron Alfons Maria von Liguori . The organ is on the eastern gallery .
