The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Aloysius is a listed church building at Hohler Weg 42 in Iserlohn , a town in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia .

History and architecture

The large neo-Romanesque brick basilica with a double tower facade , a transept, the staggered choir and the choir side towers was built from 1891 to 1895 according to a design by the Cologne architects Carl Rüdell and Richard Odenthal and consecrated in 1894. The St. Sebastian Church in Lobberich was built according to the same plans.

After being damaged in World War II , the vaults were renewed. In the very high and wide nave, there are bundle pillars and columns made of dark marble. The arches and ribs are made of sandstone .

There are three wheel windows with colored glazing by Irmgard Wessel-Zumloh above the main entrance .

Furnishing

  • The Way of the Cross , the pews, the confessionals and monumental stone figures are still from the original furnishings . The figures represent Christ enthroned and six saints. They were moved from the choir to the tower chapels.
  • The body of the wooden crucifix is ​​a Nuremberg work from around 1520, it was acquired more recently.
  • The seated Mother of God made of wood with an old frame dates from around 1380. She probably came from southwest Germany and is currently a church treasure .
  • The two west towers carry a total of four cast steel bells that were cast by the Bochum Association in 1920 . The bell sounds in h ° -d'-e'-f sharp '.
