The St. Angela School is one of four secondary schools in Königstein im Taunus . It is a state-recognized private school in the independent ownership of the Diocese of Limburg (St. Hildegard-Schulgesellschaft mbH) and training school for the study seminars Oberursel (grammar school) and Friedberg (secondary school).

The St. Angela School is a girls' school with a grammar school and secondary school and continues the more than 125-year tradition of the Ursulines in Königstein im Taunus , after the St. Hildegard School Society took over the sponsorship in 1997 . As a state-recognized school, it is obliged to comply with the School Act and the requirements of the State of Hesse, including the state high school diploma and the central final exams for secondary schools. As a Catholic school, it is based on the basic rules for Catholic schools in the state of Hesse; Religion is therefore a compulsory subject.

The school currently consists of a four-course grammar school and a two-course secondary school .

history

In 1880 the "Hainbad" was opened as a public bath on today's school grounds. The bath, which was owned by the Catholic parish priest Ernst Franz August Munzenberger , was officially run by five nuns. In 1883 a chapel was built which was to officially serve a future orphanage. When the Kulturkampf , during which the admission of a Catholic school was out of the question, came to an end, on May 15, 1884, a Catholic secondary school for girls was officially founded under the name of St. Anna. The school with initially 30 pupils was connected to the Ursuline monastery in 1891. Students were later also admitted. From 1928 the school was again an all-girls school.

In 1929 a new building was inaugurated. The building designed by the architect Martin Weber was visited by 112 schoolgirls in 1939. The existence of private schools was in conflict with the totalitarian claims of the National Socialists. In 1936 the city's financial support was discontinued. In 1938 the St. Anna-Lyceum was the last denominational school in the district. The school was closed on April 1, 1940, the pupils were distributed to other schools and the sisters fired. A teaching institution was set up in the school building. After the Second World War , the school was initially requisitioned by the US occupation forces, but was re-established as a Catholic school in November 1945. The school has had its current name since then. In 1946 the school had 400 students. The resulting shortage of space was alleviated by the construction of a new cloister building and a new church and in 1966 by the construction of the “White House”. In 1964 a secondary school branch was established, which was recognized by the state in 1973. In 1979 the former Hainbad on the site was replaced by a new building, a bistro and forum were built in 2007/2008, and the adjacent tennis court was acquired as a school sports field. For the 2010/2011 school year, the extensive renovation and modernization (library, internet workstations, etc.) of the new building built in 1929 was completed.
