St. Anna, Kirchhaslach

The Roman Catholic Chapel of St. Anna is located in the middle of a cemetery in Kirchhaslach , in the Unterallgäu district , Bavaria . The listed building was built in the 16th century and is surrounded by a way of the cross consisting of eleven chapels.

Building description

The chapel consists of an octagonal central building with an eight-pointed star vault inside. The keystone of the star vault has the shape of a polygonal disc with concave sides. On the south side an arched door leads into the chapel. There are further arched windows on both sides of the entrance. Inside, in the northern area, a transverse wall has been drawn in up to half the height of the chapel. In the middle of this transverse wall there is a basket-arched niche, which is flanked by a round-arched niche on each side. The outer facade is structured with pilaster strips at the corners . The chapel is covered with an eight-sided tent roof.

The interior of the chapel is dominated by a group of calvaries that was created around 1680. Three crucifixes are placed on the transverse wall , with Jesus Christ in the middle and the two thieves next to them . Below the three crosses there are figures of the Evangelist John , Mary Magdalene and Mary . A Pietà from 1430 is placed in the central niche of the transverse wall . The body of Jesus in the flat niche below, like the group of calvaries, dates from around 1680. There are kneeling angels in the two side niches. One of these dates from the 19th century, the other from around 1680. The unmounted pew with its narrow, curved cheeks dates from the 17th or 18th century.
