The church

The Church of St. Bartholomew is in the center of Geraberg in the Ilm district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Geratal in the parish of Arnstadt-Ilmenau of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

Before the Reformation , the church was the main church of the place and the surrounding villages ( Roda , Angelroda , Elgersburg and Manebach ). In 1637–1644 the church tower was demolished because of its disrepair and rebuilt. With a few additions, it received its present face in 1696 with a tail dome and the lantern with a small tail dome, the ball and the weather vane .

The nave was demolished from 1750 to 1753 ; The new building was in the half-timbered style , the roof was covered with slate , the walls were equipped with flat arched windows with stained glass .

There are three galleries inside . In 1863 the organ damaged in the Seven Years' War was repaired and the church was painted.

In 1996 the 750th anniversary of the congregation took place and the church celebrated the 250th anniversary in 2000.
