Evangelical parish church, formerly St. Bonifatius in Dolgesheim

The Protestant parish church , formerly St. Bonifatius , is the oldest building in Dolgesheim . The church building is listed in the list of monuments of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . For the first time the church was referred to as a parish church in a document in 1338 .

The foundation walls of the essentially late medieval rectangular hall building go back to the 13th century. A post-Gothic renovation was carried out around 1616 on the south portal, the window and the gallery . At that time the roof structure had a ridge turret , which had sunk in the 17th century and was partially removed in the first third of the 18th century. The hipped roof dates from the 18th century. In 1914 the roof turret was replaced by the new construction of the west tower in front of the church.

In the former south portal there is a tombstone marked 1766.

At the beginning of the 1950s, the stones from the excavated church on the Petersberg were saved and placed in the church and in the nearby cemetery. In 2014, the stones, including two Romanesque half-column bases and a Gothic vaulted rib, were handed over to the state monument conservation authority.

The church was restored in 1946 and 2000. It is considered a gem among the Protestant churches in Rheinhessen .
