St. Bonifatius (Grossmaischeid)
St. Bonifatius is the Roman Catholic parish church of Großmaischeid ( Neuwied district ) in Rhineland-Palatinate .
history
In 1204 the parish of Großmaischeid was first mentioned as Metscheid . The church was probably founded by the lords of Isenburg , who owned the patronage rights. The Romanesque church of St. Bonifatius was replaced by a larger structure from the 13th century while retaining the tower with a diamond roof , which was not structured except for a cornice . The choir of this new building was again laid down in 1875 and replaced by a transept with a choir, in neo-Gothic form, based on plans by Hermann Nebel (1816-1893).
