The St. Croix River is a right tributary of the Avon River in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia .

The St. Croix River is dammed up to generate electricity in the upper reaches of the 28 km long Panuke Lake . It initially flows north through Hartville and St. Croix . A total of 3 hydropower plants are located on the upper reaches of the St. Croix River. The expressway of Nova Scotia Highway 101 then crosses the St. Croix River, a little further downstream of Nova Scotia Highway 14 . The Meander River meets the St. Croix River on the right. Then the river meanders west for the last 10 km. The tidal influence is noticeable here. The St. Croix River finally flows into the estuary of the Avon River at Windsor .

The St. Croix River has a length (calculated from the upper end of Panuke Lake) of 50 km. The catchment area covers 742 km².

The St. Croix River is a spawning area for the Atlantic salmon . The construction of a road dam on the Avon River directly above the confluence of the St. Croix River created extensive mud fields in the downstream direction, which have an impact on the hydrology and fauna of the St. Croix River.
