St. Dionysius (Chapel)
The Catholic parish church of St. Dionysius is a listed church building in Capelle , a district of Nordkirchen in the Coesfeld district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The community was founded by Countess Reinmod around 1022/1023 and made a parish in 1900 . The three-bay hall of the church was built in quarry stone from 1696 to 1701. The core of the west tower is probably older. The transept and the 5/8 choir were built from sandstone blocks by Aloys Kersting from 1902 to 1903. The external appearance is dominated by the tall, neo-Gothic extension. The ribbed vaults rest on consoles. The colored windows were made by Derix stained glass based on a design by Friedrich Stummel .
Furnishing
- The carved neo-Gothic tabernacle altar is laterally decorated with reliefs of the wedding of Cana and the multiplication of the bread.
- The wooden double Madonna is a work from around 1700.
- The figure of St. Dionysius was carved in the middle of the 18th century. The original version was exposed in 1969.
